orlando birth doula packages

congrats on your pregnancy!

xoxo, tamara

“i do not care what kind of birth you have… a homebirth, scheduled cesarean, epidural hospital birth, or if you birth alone in the woods next to a baby deer. i care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices, and that you were respected.” — january harshe

what my doula clients are saying

  • "If I could give her a million stars, I would. From the beginning, Tamara was responsive and helpful and relatable and wonderful. We had a long consultation conversation and I knew she would be a great fit! We met multiple times over my pregnancy and she made sure I knew the ins and outs of everything, even with this being my second pregnancy! Without all this knowledge I absolutely would have gone into my birth basically blind sided and because of her, I'm confident in all the decisions I had to make during my labor and delivery. She was so supportive and an amazing advocate for me and my husband and made both of us feel safe and happy throughout the birthing process. I'll be recommending her to anyone and everyone I can."

  • "It was a true privilege to have you by my side for the pregnancy and birth of my 5th baby. You have so much strength, wisdom and kindness that you bring with you to every visit, and you truly helped me feel comfortable, strong, and confident in my journey. I feel we built a genuine and beautiful friendship that will carry on well beyond the pregnancy and postpartum phase and I’m eternally grateful for the knowledge, love, support, and gentleness you showed me. I had the most beautiful and magical home birth thanks to my incredible birth team and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way to welcome a new life into the world. I will forever feel honored to know you as a person, doula and friend. Thank you for all the amazing things you do."

  • "How do you know when someone has a gift? When a person’s work goes beyond a skill, job or hobby and reaches the place of spirituality and pure connectedness? I don’t remember a lot from our daughter’s birth, but I remember the moment I realized Tamara had a gift. I knew she was talented from the way she handled all of our meetings up to my actual labor- but still, I was anxious I would need too much from her in that space. Our culture has taught me, and so many people, that needing another person is weak, even selfish. Yet when the waves of contractions began, she sat in front of me, holding onto my arms, while I gripped tightly onto hers. I wanted to lean on her, to find comfort in her warmth and the steadiness of her presence. I felt that desire so strongly, yet, I stayed still, breathing and wishing my (“weak”) desire away. She whispered, “You can lean on me.” I melted into her. All propriety and shame I felt for NEEDING disappeared. Tamara is a beacon of trust, where comfort is given without fear or sometimes, even the need to speak. Even through a hospital transfer and an emergency surgical birth, I knew that she was there for me and my family. So if you are looking for an advocate or just a steadying voice to break through the emotional whirlwind that is birth, look no farther than Tamara for your doula services. She really has a gift."

  • "Where do I even begin? Tamara is the best Doula you could ever ask for. Finding Tamara was the biggest blessing we never saw coming! Her love and support throughout our entire pregnancy, birth and postpartum period was life changing. I first contacted Tamara after finding out I was pregnant unexpectedly with our second baby. My first birth experience was a hospital transfer and emergency C-section. I was left traumatized and violated by the medical birthing system, and feeling let down by the midwife team I hired. This time around was lightyears different. After meeting with Tamara, we all quickly decided this was a perfect fit. She was open minded, body positive, supportive of our rights and choices, and all of our beliefs lined up perfectly. throughout the prenatal visits she was kind, educational, and there whenever I had a question or fear. At 37 weeks I was denied paperwork from the state of FL to allow me to birth at home under the care of my private midwife. This changed our plans so rapidly. We made the decision to have a free birth without a midwife present. Tamara was so supportive during this very difficult time so close to our birth. She helped us learn everything we could about free birth and prepare, and she was such a steady presence in that time. reminding us that we have the choice, and empowering us to choose whatever was best for my physical and emotional well-being. *She made sure to make it clear that she was not a midwife, and would not be hands on or be giving any medical advice during the birth as it was our responsibility as free-birthers.* I credit her for making me feel so empowered and confident in my choice to birth on my own, without her support I would have had another traumatizing hospital experience and likely c-section. By the time Labor finally came around Tamara was at my side within an hour of things picking up. My labor was 27 hours of excruciating back labor and she was there the W H O L E time. right there with me, supporting me, comforting me, talking to me, helping my husband, and them trading off for naps. She was an angel. Throughout our pregnancy Tamara became more than our doula... she is our dearest friend. It meant the world to have her there by my side as I roared my little boy earth-side in our apartment bathtub. It meant the world to me to have such a strong support and someone who did so well to take care of me in my most difficult hours. She is a godsend. If you are looking for a fierce, loyal, strong, loving, patient, knowledgable, kind and over all lovely person to be by your side and focused on you during your birth, please, please, PLEASE hire Tamara. You will not ever second guess or regret it. She is genuine and the best birth worker I've come to know. PLUS, have you seen the herbal products this wonderful lady makes?? I recommend them to everyone I know! Hire Tamara as your doula, and definitely buy her products! You will not be sorry!!!"

  • "Tamara is a person you want at your birth and in your life in general. She has a gift for knowing how to help you through each situation. During our prenatal visits she was very friendly and optimistic and helped assuage my fears with her knowledge and resources. At my actual birth her calm voice cut through the labor pain reminding me to take deep breaths and that I was strong enough to do this. My husband was also very glad she was there as he found himself clueless about how to help me, or even interact with me during labor. My first pregnancy was high risk twins delivered by emergency C-section at 37 weeks (no doula), and then a baby in NICU for 6 weeks. The entire time I felt like I had no control over anything. This time around I wanted a calm, normal birth. For me this primary included a vbac (vaginal birth after cessation), and a doula who could help me navigate what my options were during delivery. I feel that the birth I had this time, with Tamara as my doula, has completely redeemed that first birth experience. Tamara helped me get more information in the prenatal phase, allowing me to feel more in control of my own pregnancy. I got my vbac and was able to hold my newborn immediately after she was born without her being whisked away. Tamara was a great support to me and to my husband during this whole process. Tamara's coaching before the birth helped me think about the things I did really want, such as delayed cord clamping and keeping the plecenta. She was able to recommend a birth class for me and I likely would have had no birth plan at all without Tamara helping me through the process and informing me about what I could ask for and what I would need to ask for."

  • "Tamara was a vital member of our birth team. She was calm, reassuring and flexible...all super important when it comes to birth! We decided to add Tamara to our team to support us in the birth of my 4th child...primarily to take the burden off of dad. We were also considering doing a home birth (the other 3 were either birth center or hospital). As it turned out, we did decide to attempt a home birth since we lived very close to a hospital in the case of an emergency and everything was looking great on ultrasound and with my health. It was by far the best birth! We were able to set up the room EXACTLY the way I wanted it. I truly "nested". With traditional Chinese music softly playing in the background, to the glow of my salt lamp, in my own bed, with the support of my partner, the backing of my highly trained midwife Katrina, and encouragement of my doula, Tamara, I gave birth to our beautiful, 9lb 2oz, bundle of joy. The recovery was a dream-being able to leisurely cuddle with my little one, no rush, every moment a lasting memory with no medical procedures interrupting the bonding. Daniel had his first breastfeeding while the umbilical was still attached and he was able to get ALL the wonderful stem cells from the placenta. No wonder he is so happy and healthy! Thank you, Tamara, for coming into our lives! You will forever be part of the most beautiful day of my life!"

the evidence for birth doulas

studies show that when a woman or birthing person is accompanied by a trained and professional doula throughout their childbearing year they are more likely to have positive birth outcomes including:

40% decrease in the risks of surgical births
60% less epidural requests
50% reduction of use of pitocin
10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
25% shorter birthing times on average
15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score
31% decrease in the instance of birth trauma and in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

“Of all the ways birth outcomes could be improved, continuous labor support seems like one of the most important and basic needs for birthing people. Providing labor support to birthing people is both risk-free and highly effective. Evidence shows that continuous support can decrease the risk of Cesarean, the use of medications for pain relief, and the risk of a low five minute Apgar score. Labor support also increases satisfaction and the chance of a spontaneous vaginal birth. Continuous support may also shorten labor and decrease the use of Pitocin. Although continuous support can also be offered by birth partners, midwives, nurses, or even some physicians, research has shown that with some outcomes, doulas have a stronger effect than other types of support persons. As such, doulas should be viewed by both parents and providers as a valuable, evidence-based member of the birth care team.” — the evidence based birth website

what do i believe about birth?

birth is a normal physiological event.

Birth works best when left alone.

When pregnant people are free to move around and not confined to a bed or a monitor.
Free to eat and drink as needed.
Free to go inward without being bothered.
Free to roar like a lion without being silenced.

Variations of normal are not always risks.

Meconium in the waters.
Prolonged waters releasing.
Breech birth.
Multiples.

pregnant people are autonomous beings even in birth.

pregnant people have the right to informed consent and rights of refusal towards any procedure.

Even GBS testing or treatment.
Even Vit K.
Even if they are RH negative.
Even vaginal checks or heart tones with a doppler.

Every pregnant person should birth where and with whom they feel safest birthing.

That may be in the hospital with an OB or a CNM.
Or it may be at home or a birth center with a LM/CPM.
Doula or no doula.
It may even be free birthing at home with no medical professional present.

pregnant bodies are not broken.

Birth happens on it's own schedule.

There is no such thing as an overdue baby. Babies come when they are ready.
Most people do not dilate at one centimeter per hour.
Undisturbed birth may only take a few hours, but it also may take a few days.
vaginas are not vacuums. The best thing to do to minimize the risk of infection is keeping your hands out of her vagina.
Placentas can take upwards of an hour to release on their own.

Everyone, barring very rare circumstances and if given the correct support, can have physiological vaginal birth.

Teen parents.
Fat people.
whose who are of "advanced maternal age."
Whether or not they’ve had all their previous babies vaginally or have had all their previous babies via surgical birth

trust your body. trust your baby. trust birth.
